National Director of Cardiac Imaging

Dr. Nishi Patel, M.D., is a dynamic and accomplished cardiologist whose clinical practice and leadership are shaping the landscape of cardiovascular medicine. Based at WellSpan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, Dr. Patel is renowned for his expertise in heart failure, cardiac critical care, and advanced cardiac imaging. As the National Director of Cardiac Imaging for Access Physicians/SOC Telemedicine, he also plays a pivotal role in expanding access to specialized cardiac care for rural and underserved communities across the United States.

Dr. Patel’s academic foundation is solid and diverse. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Drexel University College of Arts & Sciences in 2009 and his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2013. He completed his internship and residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, then advanced to fellowship training in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Board-certified in six disciplines—including Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, Echocardiography, Cardiac CT, and Nuclear Cardiology—Dr. Patel brings broad and deep expertise to every aspect of his practice.

At WellSpan York Hospital, Dr. Patel manages some of the most challenging cases in heart failure and cardiac critical care, offering advanced therapies such as ECMO, LVAD, and Impella to patients with life-threatening heart disease. His work has helped establish a comprehensive heart failure program that enables patients to receive cutting-edge treatments close to home, thereby enhancing their quality of life and reducing the need for lengthy travel. He is also developing a specialized clinic for survivors of cardiogenic shock, ensuring that these patients receive not just acute care but ongoing support and monitoring. By utilizing remote technologies like CardioMEMS, Dr. Patel is advancing preventive cardiology and empowering patients to manage their health more effectively.

In his national role with Access Telecare, Dr. Patel leads efforts to increase the availability of expert cardiac imaging in hospitals that lack local subspecialists. By leveraging telemedicine, he ensures that even patients in remote areas can benefit from sophisticated diagnostics such as echocardiography and cardiac CT. His leadership in this field is expanding the reach of quality cardiovascular care to a broader population.

Nishi Patel is a prolific researcher, with publications and presentations on topics ranging from mechanical circulatory support to genomics and precision medicine in cardiology. He is the recipient of the Zoll Foundation Research Grant and serves as Editor-in-Chief for Cardiology and Cardiac CT at StatPearls. As a dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Patel also lectures regularly and volunteers with charitable organizations. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys practicing martial arts and spending time outdoors, reflecting a commitment to holistic well-being.
